The first time I ordered these they worked well. This 2nd order seems to be made of lighter material but stickier glue. My poor pup wears the pad off quickly but the top straps stay stuck to his paw hair and I have to clip or wash them off. They leave a residue on the hair that is sticky and collects dirt.
The straps make all the difference! My 14 year old Wheaten terrier with spinal cord related weakness relies on the traction on all four feet, and the straps keep the paw protectors on for almost a week.
So I’ve tried a lot of things for my old girl. She’s an Akita, and I will say the sizing runs small. I ordered her an XL but will prob order an XXL when it’s time for more. I’ve tried at least three different types of boots and since she has severe arthritis, muscle dystrophy, and degenerative spinal neuropathy her legs just don’t have those little balancing muscles anymore and she slides out all over the place. Boots wouldn’t work for her because when her legs slid outwards they would just kinda move sideways to where the pads of the boot move off to the side of her foot. These are pretty sticky and she doesn’t seems to mind me putting them on her very much (she’s very particular about her front feet). The stickiness helps them stick on and then the sticky straps help secure them further. They are too bad to get off and really don’t seem to pull out her hair but they do pull on her hair a little. L They help keep her stable when walking and even standing, she doesn’t slip and slide as much, but they also don’t last forever so don’t expect a miracle in that area. I get like 4 days out of each pad but they do help a lot! Totally worth it!
While I can’t imagine these lasting for weeks, they do actually work really well to provide traction when they are on. I would describe them similar to fabric band-aid material with the rubber type feet that are on toddler socks. We’ve tried the boots and the socks, but these are the easiest and provide the best traction. They are honestly pretty clever. My 15 year old dog is still super active but her legs just slide out from under her everywhere, despite having rugs and rumble strips all over our floors. It has to be painful and when that’s coupled with arthritis, I’m sure it’s even worse. She has never noticed they on from the very beginning- she doesn’t walk funny or try to bite them off, which shocked me. And her legs definitely don’t slip when they are on, which gives me a lot of peace of mind. The upside is these are super clever, really do the trick when they are on, I’m so glad they exist. The downside is my dogs still walk a mile every morning and run around in the yard and dig in the garden so these things stay on maybe 2 days max before they come off. I’m fine with that, I’m happy to just get them to give her quality of life while she still can. Pic of her sleeping soundly, could care less she has these dog stickers on her feet.
We were looking for something to help our 15 year old westie keep traction on hardwood floors. He used to be able to walk fine on them but had some issues running. Now that he is older though his legs slide out all over with every step!
We put these on and it made an immediate difference! He even has a little more pep in his step because of it!
I was nervous bc some reviews said they only last a few hours but thought Id take even that if they worked. Ours lasted 2 days. They are VERY sticky at first (particularly to itself so be careful!). We made sure to trim all the little hair between his toe beans before placing them on and had no issues! He doesnt pick at them either!
