Short Interview With Doggie Protective Services

1.What inspired DOGGIE PROTECTIVE SERVICES?
It has always been our founders strong belief that if we have the resources and the ability to save highly adoptable dogs from certain death, that we should do so. She started our rescue on that principle, and now over 21 years later we are still committed to her vision. It doesn’t matter if the dogs in need are in the Bay Area, LA, or as far away as Korea, our philosophy is simple; if there is a need, and we can and want to assist, then we will. We have now rescued over 22,000 dogs and cats, and as long as there is still need, we will still be in rescue!

2.What motivated you to volunteer with DOGGIE PROTECTIVE SERVICES?
I knew that I wanted to foster, and was inspired by DPS’s foster-based mission to keep dogs in homes where they would be loved unconditionally before they were placed in the right forever home. After I got my first DPS dog, I was hooked. I have been with DPS for almost 7 years now, and feel so blessed to have been welcomed into the DPS family.

3.What advice do you have for people who want to get involved in animal rescue?
Get involved! We always need fosters, but if you don’t have the space or time to foster, rescues can always use volunteers at events. If you don’t have time either you can help by donating to save the lives of dogs in need. Figure out the option that works for you and reach out to your local rescue.

4.Have there been any particularly challenging experiences during your time volunteering, and how did you handle them?
The summer is always tough as adoptions are low, fosters are generally hard to come by, and the shelters start to get overcrowded. We work extra hard as a team to make sure we are getting dogs adopted as quickly as possible to ensure that our available foster homes can take in new dogs from the overcrowded shelters. We anticipate a difficult next couple of months, but know that if we work as a team we can navigate them in a way that maximizes our ability to save lives.
